When that crap happens to me I have to walk away from the scale like a kid does and says to the other "you are not my friend anymore" wah and then next week I could just hug it for making me keep keeping on. Don't let that discourage you. If you keep on track, I bet you will find out yeah it was water weight or be surprised that you actually lost 3 lbs if you focus on the water gain thing and go through the motions to avoid those things that do it.
